Rest, Renew, Reboot
Your Toolbar
Would you climb Mount Everest without an acclimation period? Of course not.
The same way, you shouldn’t start a training program without a period of time to renew, reset and reboot your body to prepare for a rigorous and challenging transformation.
Many people get real geared up when I say the worst time to start a fitness program is tomorrow. The only day worse than that is today.
Sure, everybody else is saying, “Get up off the couch and get moving today.”
The problem is that Americans are overstressed, overserved, undernourished, and underslept. We’re not getting enough sleep and rest. And for many, our nutrition is out-of-whack. Our bodies and minds are in a state of stress.
And, while the tendency is to start training hard to kick off a transformation program, it’s important to note that training and conditioning your body adds stress… a positive stress in some ways, but it is still stress to the body.
I’ve talked to thousands of people who’ve eagerly engaged in a new training program; they go in full-on, ready to hit it, then, all of the sudden, they’re fatigued, they’re exhausted.
Over the last 10 years we’ve learned much from transformation programs, including: When your body is under stress, you can’t add stress to the stress.
Going from stress to stress causes your body to shut down. It’s called a catabolic state: Your body is breaking down… not building up.
In Strength for Life I set aside the first 12 days to ready yourself, to get prepped. This greatly improves your odds of not only starting your FIT for SUCCESS Challenge strong, but finishing strong with remarkable results.
We officially kick off the FIT for SUCCESS Challenge next Monday, June 1, with an abbreviated six-day reboot, but why wait? Start your reboot today and get a head start.
My gift to you. If you don’t own the book, go grab chapter 5 (pdf file) in its entirety now and begin with me tomorrow.
You’ll soon discover just how great you can feel in just 12 short days!
Join me as we set ourselves up for success and a transformative 90 days with Phase 1 of Strength for Life, the “Total System Reboot for Body and Mind,” a.k.a. the most important first move in fitness.
Reboot!
Until Next Week…
Shawn

You all seem like you are doing well. I just finished the 12 day basecamp and I am feeling positive about my Training Camp work outs. I am modifying because of my continued breast cancer treatment and my goal does not include weight loss this time around. I simply want to tone what I have and lose inches. (The breast reconstruction process will add weight to me so I decided to simply focus on my strength.) I ran for the first time yesterday and that felt good so I think the strength training (although probably not at the same level I was at) will be fine.
For the summer I also added a Zumba class just for a little different workout. I totally believe in the strength training though and I really can’t wait to get back to actually lifting!
My motto for my Training Camp is: “My choices matter and I choose strength!!”
Have a great week everyone!

Way to go, Teresa! I’m beginning to wonder if I should have taken the full 12 days, instead of the abbreviated 6 for the program…It’s not that I haven’t seen progress, it is just that there is so much vibrancy and enthusiasm from those who did so…
After completing my first week of training at home with lesser weights, I returned to the gym this morning at 6 am to start my second week with a bit more heft…It felt amazing, and the new club that I have joined has a pleasant atmosphere, but is not at all distracting…What a great start to my day, and my week!
Have a fantastic week, everyone!

I have completed the 12 days of Rest, Renew and Reboot! I followed everything that Shawn wanted me to do. I lost 10 pounds in just 12 days and have felt really great!! Now I moving on to the other excercise program that he has laid out for me. I am hoping to loose another 10 to 15 pounds by the end of the challenge.

I was a way for the day. I see the importance of the base camp.
I see stress as a factor and it leads to the comfort of food.
I can control my Saturday’s so. Tomorrow I will start the base camp. I like the idea of having to complete 12 days

Ditto on the arms! My triceps in particular are still stiff from yesterday’s sets…Feels good to be using them, though!

At the encouragement of my manager Kevin, I have started the 90 day challenge today. I really need this base camp to rest, renew, and reboot. This makes sense to me. Then after base camp, I am confident I can hit the fitness with better results.

Hey ksolliday, thanks for the info on the shakes.
My arms were not sore the day I first did the pushups, but yesterday when I had to do them for the second time they were! Ouch! (but a “good” ouch).

To order his shakes, you need to go to Shawn’s actual website: shawn-phillips.com They are expensive, so be forewarned… however, since I am not a breakfast eater, and need to break that habit, I bit the bullet (after researching the ingredients of many of the other “shake-type” products out there) and ordered a month’s supply. They are really good, and I brought the box into my Oncology Hemotolgist (I have several chronic and severe illnesses, so I need to be careful) and he said Shawn had done a really good job on the ingredients - so my only caveat is the price (I just figure I’ve given up my Starbucks, so this is the (more nutritious) replacement). Hope that helps!! Good luck to everyone - my arms are sore from the pushups (Yep, I am a former wimp

You can do it, Joe! I almost buckled last night watching the hockey game - old habits die hard…Point is, I got through it, AND slept an extra hour this morning to compensate for the decision to stay up…Take it one day at a time!
