SUCCESS.com has partnered with Lifetime Moms to introduce you to some outstanding women. Last time, we introduced you to Shari Zatman, of Perfectly Planned by Shari. Shari and these other women are a lot like you—they range from stay-at-home moms to successful career women, entrepreneurs and CEOs of their homes.
Meet Lori Reynolds-Lewis
“You have the right to be here.” –Barbara Corcoran at Spark & Hustle
Lori Reynolds-Lewis’ company, Mocha Moon, was born of her own need for a stylish, compartmental organizer for her cosmetics. Tired of digging through her cosmetics drawer and handbag for the particular shade of lipstick to match her outfit, Lori had one of those TV infomercial catchphrase moments: “There’s got to be a better way!”
The Ellenwood, Georgia mom went to work creating drawings and prototypes of her cosmetics organizer, even catching the eye of the CAD artist, who wanted to order a cosmetics case for his wife.
“Our products do more than look good–they introduce order, style and convenience into the lives of our customers,” Lori tells SUCCESS. “Functional, elegant and versatile, we bring organization to disorder but we do it with style.”
While Lori learned on the fly about patents, funding, overseas shipping and sourcing materials, she attended Tory Johnson’s Spark & Hustle tour twice–once in Atlanta and a second time in New York City, where she met the CEO of international crowdfunding site IndieGoGo.com. “My company needed to raise funds to purchase bulk inventory of my products,” Lori says. “Prior to this, I had never heard of crowdfunding.”
She found some success in her IndieGoGo campaign, but didn’t reach her personal fundraising goal. Only a minor setback for the goal-driven entrepreneur.
Says Lori, “I”m my biggest cheerleader and I believe there is nothing I can’t do.”
