Roger Ebert: ‘I was born inside the movie of my life’

Roger Ebert hasn’t spoken a word in years, but America seems to be listening to him more than ever. The beloved movie critic lost his voice after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2002.  But his words are louder than ever.

His website, rogerebert.com, has been averaging 10 million hits a month, and not just when he writes about his date with Oprah.

In this excerpt, Ebert shares passages from his new memoir Life Itself:

I was born inside the movie of my life. The visuals were before me, the audio surrounded me, the plot unfolded inevitably but not necessarily.
